2020 CIGRE Canada Toronto Conference and Coronavirus COVID-19
March 24, 2020
Dear CIGRE Members and the Canadian Electric Utility Community:
The past few weeks have been very unsettling with the impacts of COVID‑19. I have heard people express their fears about what will happen as a result. Experts in the fields of medicine and science have told us to expect the effects of COVID-19 to be far-reaching for several months. That said, right now, it is difficult to know exactly what that means in the medium term.
CIGRE Canada is committed to continuing to encourage collaboration for the most critical issues and innovations taking place within the power industry. We want to make sure all of you are taking care of yourselves and your loved ones by following the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Social distancing is necessary, but if you’re feeling isolated, reach out. If you know anyone who is quarantined, call or email them. Most importantly, we want you to remember that regardless of what Province, State or Country you live in, we really are all in this together. Let’s look after each other.
Considering the situation of the pandemic, CIGRE Canada and the host of our 2020 event, Hydro One, wishes to inform our members, sponsors and exhibitors that we will continue to maintain our plans for the event in Toronto this October. We will continue to evaluate the situation as further information is provided from the WHO and consider postponement to a later date if advised.
Please take care of yourselves, your families and co-workers at this time.
Chair, CIGRE Canada
